Chattogram Port is the Heart of Bangladesh’s Economy: Dr. Pervez Shazzad

Dr. Pervez Sazzad Receives Support for FBCCI Presidency

Chattogram: A significant discussion meeting focusing on the pivotal role of Chattogram Port in Bangladesh’s economic development and commercial growth was held in Chattogram on Sunday. The meeting was organized by the Bangladesh Shipping Agents Association (BSAA) and chaired by the association’s chairman, Syed Mohammad Arif.

Renowned shipping and customs expert, Chairman of Rafiz Group, three-time former Chairman of BSAA, and former FBCCI Director Dr.Pervez Shazzad Akter was a key participant in the event. With over three decades of experience in import-export and international trade, Dr. Pervez delivered an in-depth analysis on the importance of Chattogram Port and the challenges it currently faces.

“Chattogram Port is the lifeline of Bangladesh’s economy,” said Dr. Pervez . “The port’s efficiency and modernization determine the pace of our national growth. To ensure seamless import and export operations, timely and adaptive reforms in port management are essential.”

Referring to the Bay Terminal project, Dr. Pervez noted, “When the idea of the Bay Terminal was first floated, I personally visited the proposed site with a high-level delegation, which included the then port chairman, two board members, the harbor master, estate manager, and noted industrialist Ali Hossain Akbar Ali. The foundation of the project was laid based on our collective insights. Now is the time to implement it.”

In his presidential remarks, Syed Mohammad Arif said, “Although Dr. Pervez is younger than me, his foresight, leadership qualities, and deep understanding of global trade are extraordinary. He has been involved with the port for 32 years and has actively contributed to FBCCI for 28 years. His contributions to port operations, customs, shipping, and import-export are undeniable.”

He further added, “During my term as vice president, Dr. Pervez efficiently led the organization as president. It is now imperative to see such an experienced and capable individual assume the FBCCI presidency. His leadership will significantly strengthen the future of our trade sector.”

More than a hundred business leaders and industrialists, presidents of various organizations, and general body members present at the meeting expressed their support for Dr. Pervez Sazzad Akter for the FBCCI presidency and assured him of all necessary assistance going forward.

Also in attendance were MA Malek, editor of the country’s first post-independence daily Dainik Azadi and recipient of the Ekushey Padak, as well as Wahid Malek, executive editor of Azadi, along with many of Chattogram’s top business personalities and industrialists.

The meeting not only underscored the centrality of Chattogram Port but also highlighted the pressing need for experienced and visionary leadership in the country’s economic institutions.
