Average Daily Handling Increases by 225 TEUs
BusinessToday24 Correspondent, Chattogram: Chattogram Drydock Limited has demonstrated remarkable progress immediately after assuming operational control of the New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT) at Chattogram Port. Within just the first seven days of management, a notable increase in container handling has been observed.
From July 7 to July 13, 2025, Chattogram Drydock handled an average of 3,181 TEUs per day, compared to 2,956 TEUs per day during the previous seven days under Saif Powertec Limited. This marks an increase of 225 TEUs per day, indicating a positive growth trend.
Background of the Handover
The NCT terminal at Chattogram Port had long been operated under the supervision of Saif Powertec Limited. However, the company’s agreement with the port expired on July 6, 2025. Following a directive from the Ministry of Shipping, Chattogram Drydock Limited took over the terminal’s operations from July 7, 2025.
Snapshot of the First Week’s Operations
In its first seven days of operation, Chattogram Drydock successfully completed container loading and unloading on 10 vessels. Currently, all four berths at the NCT terminal are operating simultaneously, reflecting improved coordination and operational efficiency.
This clearly demonstrates that Drydock has the capability to maintain both speed and quality in terminal management and execution.
Economic Implications & The Port’s Future
Experts suggest that the daily increase of 225 TEUs is more than just statistical progress—it reflects a boost in the overall operational capacity of Chattogram Port. If this growth remains consistent, it could lead to significant improvements in the nation’s export-import logistics and ensure compliance with international standards in maritime trade.
Within just one week of assuming responsibility, Chattogram Drydock Limited has showcased efficiency and effective management—an encouraging signal for the port’s future leadership and development.
If such a performance trend continues at the NCT, Chattogram Port could emerge as one of South Asia’s most important transshipment hubs, stakeholders believe.
