From Our Correspondent, Dhaka: The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh has ordered the maintenance of status quo on all activities related to the publication of the final results and subsequent processes of the Bangladesh Shipping Agents Association election (BSAA) for the 2025 to 2027 term, held in Chattogram.
The order was passed on Monday, December 29, following a hearing by the Chamber Judge of the Appellate Division, where arguments from both sides were heard. At the same time, the matter has been fixed for hearing before the full bench of the Appellate Division on January 11, 2026.
According to court sources, the petition was filed by Mohammad Anwar Hossain, a voter of the Bangladesh Shipping Agents Association and Managing Director of Benoshian Maritime Limited. He filed the leave to appeal, numbered 5041 of 2025, challenging earlier court directives and election-related actions.
Earlier, on December 8, the High Court Division delivered a judgment and issued certain directives in connection with a writ petition numbered 16393 of 2025. Subsequently, the Bangladesh Shipping Agents Association issued an election-related circular on December 24, bearing reference number BSAA/146/2025/292. The legality of both the High Court judgment and the said circular was challenged through the present appeal.
Explaining the latest court order, counsel for the petitioner, Advocate Hasan Mohammad Riyad, stated that following the hearing, the Chamber Judge directed that the status quo be maintained regarding the subject matter of the case. As a result, all post-election activities, including the formation of the new board and publication of the final election results, will remain suspended until January 11.
Advocate Hasan Mohammad Riyad appeared on behalf of the petitioner, while Advocate Md Salahuddin Chowdhury and others represented the respondents during the hearing.
The Bangladesh Shipping Agents Association election was held on Sunday. Out of a total of 161 voters, 83 exercised their voting rights.
