From Our Correspondent, Dhaka: Saudia, the national flag carrier of Saudi Arabia, officially commenced its 2026 Hajj flight operations from Dhaka on Friday night. The inaugural flight departed from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, marking a pivotal moment for thousands of Bangladeshi pilgrims embarking on their spiritual journey.
The ceremony was graced by Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam Rita, MP, who personally greeted the pilgrims with flowers and requested their prayers for Bangladesh’s national peace. High-ranking officials in attendance included State Minister for Civil Aviation M. Rashiduzzaman Millat, MP, and Saudi Ambassador Dr. Abdullah Zafer H. bin Abiyah, alongside key leaders from the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) and Galaxy Bangladesh Group.
Streamlining the Pilgrimage
This year’s operations once again highlight the success of the “Makkah Route” initiative. By shifting immigration, baggage handling, and security formalities to the Dhaka Hajj Camp, the program eliminates long wait times upon arrival in Saudi Arabia.
To further enhance the experience, Saudia has fully digitized its sales and distribution systems for 2026, ensuring a transparent and seamless process for all travelers. This modernization, combined with pre-clearance procedures, aims to provide a stress-free transition for pilgrims as they begin their holy rites.
